About Pearl Fishing

The Pamela Pearl is a 35 ft. Bertram that was fully rebuilt by Capt. Freed in 2018. The boat is 14 ft. wide and spacious, making it perfect for bigger groups and families.

Every detail of the restoration was inspired by the needs of the charter clients Capt. Freed has served over the years, as well as the unique characteristics of the Haleiwa fishery. The end result is a clean, comfortable boat designed for you to enjoy your day on the water. The main cabin features a full-size couch and is a great place to relax. There is a private, generously sized bathroom that you simply won’t find on smaller charter boats.

The Pamela Pearl also includes two sleeping bunks if you feel like resting before catching your next fish. There is space to relax on the back deck on the padded fish box, as well as seating on the flybridge where you can enjoy ocean views right next to the Captain. The boat is equipped with world-class fishing equipment, including 30–130 class Pen rods and reels, a 60-gallon livewell, and a large assortment of light to heavy tackle.

Captain Freed

Captain Freed was born and raised on the east side of Oahu. A third-generation fisherman, he started fishing with his father and grandfather at the age of four off Kaneohe, Oahu. He took the helm of the family boat at age sixteen and has been chasing fish, big waves, and wild adventures all over the Hawaiian Islands ever since.

A successful fishing tournament competitor, Capt. Freed has fished and won the Hawaii Kai Shack Tournament and placed in the Ahi Fever Tournament and the Halloween Shootout Tournament in Lahaina, Maui. He also guides fishing clients for a few weeks each year at Namotu Island Resort in Fiji.

Capt. Freed has traveled to Bristol Bay, Alaska for three seasons to commercially fish sockeye salmon. After working on several world-class charter fishing boats on Oahu, Capt. Freed decided to call Haleiwa his home port. If you have chartered a boat out of Haleiwa in the past six years, you may have fished with him aboard the Seeker or the Nani Kai. The Pamela Pearl is Capt. Freed’s newest adventure.

Deckhand Eric

Eric Calderon grew up in central Oahu and began fishing with his family on a trailer boat. As a teenager, he moved on to working as a deckhand on Oahu charter boats. Eric has been part of the crew aboard the Pamela Pearl since 2023 and will serve as your personal coach for the day.

Who Is Pamela?

Captain Freed named his boat in honor of his mom, Pamela. An accomplished fisherwoman, Pamela won the 1988 Senoritas Jackpot Tournament and holds the family’s biggest fish record: a 746 lb. marlin.
